Since it was first begun just over a year ago, the State’s ‘Jobs Express’ website (www.labor.ny.gov/jobs) has helped almost 60,000 New Yorkers find work. More than 4,600 employers across the State have posted jobs, and there are presently almost 75,000 openings. I urge anyone who is looking for a job to give this website a look.
Jobs Express features videos that offer advice to job seekers and an electronic job-matching tool known as “Skills Matching and Referral Technology” (SMART), which generates job leads. The Labor Department updates job listings daily.
The site also offers tips on seeking jobs and help with skills such as writing resumes and interview techniques. It’s been a very useful tool for connecting job creators with job seekers.
To access the available jobs, simply go to the website (www.labor.ny.gov/jobs) and click on the region (Nassau County is found in the “Long Island” link) in which one is interested, and see which industries are growing and find out what jobs are available in that economic sector.
In addition to the Jobs Express website, I hosted a very successful “Jobs Fair” in August, and expect to hold more in the future. More than 70 employers and 1,000 job seekers attended.
I'm doing everything I can to assist residents looking for new employment. The Jobs Express website is just one avenue, and it has shown wonderful results. I commend the Governor and the Department of Labor for launching this job resource vehicle.
