NY WORKS FUNDS NEW & IMPROVED STATE PARKS PLAYGROUNDS ON LONG ISLAND
Bethpage and Hempstead Lake State Parks Among Recipients
The New York Works Initiative, which is creating new jobs and supporting economic development across the State and Long Island, will bring much needed improvements to the playgrounds at Bethpage State Park and Hempstead Lake State Park.
At Bethpage, improvements will be made to the existing playground near the picnic area, where a “Woodland Nature” theme will be created, including ladybug, bee and mushroom play structures. At Hempstead Lake, improvements will be made to the existing playground which will create “Carousel” theme, with colorful playground benches arranged in a circle, mimicking the nearby carousel.
I am pleased to continue working with Governor Cuomo to improve our State Parks, while at the same time creating new jobs and bolstering our economy.
The improvements will be made to 10 parks across Long Island, making playgrounds accessible to people with disabilities and create distinct areas for older and younger age groups. Each playground will be given a unique theme to reflect the characteristics of each park, and the playground improvements will also include site improvements, such as shade trees and canopies, water fountains, seating and trail/walkway connections to the rest of the park.
I commend the Governor on this latest round of funding, and I applaud the playground improvements. This will not only enhance safety for children and provide access for all, including those with disabilities, but benefit all Long Islanders and their families.
