HOMES FOR RETURNING LI VETERANS
Senator Kemp Hannon is informing Iraq and Afghanistan veterans about an affordable housing opportunity. Long Island Home Builders Care (LIHBC), a not-for-profit arm of the Long Island Builders Institute (LIBI) will be building four homes for veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan. Through the donation of land and reduced charges for materials and labor, the homes will be awarded to selected Veterans at a price they can afford.
One of the major hurdles facing returning veterans is an affordable place to live. Over 10 years ago a group of Long Island builders formed a not-for-profit as a way for them to give back to the Long Island community. Their work over the past year has resulted in plans to build four homes in Suffolk County for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
With construction underway, the first home, a two-story, three bedroom high ranch located in Sound Beach can be customized to the special needs of the Veteran and his or her family. Veterans interested in applying for the home should write to Lois Fricke, Long Island Home Builders Care, 1757-8 Veterans Memorial Highway, Islandia, New York, 11749, or simply call 631-232-2345. Please include information on tour of duty and present status.
