Senator Hannon Announces National Lightning Safety Week

Many of us have grown accustomed to merely associating the sight of lightning in the distance with the downfall of rain that is likely to be heading our way. But the truth is, lightning is extremely dangerous and kills Americans every year.

During this National Lightning Safety week from June 20 through June 26, Senator Hannon is encouraging parents to speak to their children about the following  safety tips:

- Remember to get out of the pool or ocean during a lightning storm

- Move indoors right away and stay away from windows, doors and porches

- Avoid contact with video games, phones, computers and plumbing (washing hands, showers, laundry, dishes etc.)

- Not a safe place to go indoors? Then enter a hardtop car, bus or truck.

- Stay away from trees
