College Students Say You Can't Put Price on Real World Experience
“There are just some lessons that you can’t learn in a classroom setting,” said Mike Carroll, a Long Islander and a senior at Hofstra University who is finishing up his spring internship at Senator Kemp Hannon’s community office in Garden City. “Gaining a firsthand look at Senator Hannon’s daily routine is priceless,” Carroll continued.
As part of his internship, Carroll assisted in solving constituent cases, drafted letters on behalf of the people of New York and worked closely with Senator Hannon’s staff to manage the daily influx of questions and concerns that arise in a state senator’s community office.
“It’s important that students not only read about government, but experience it,” said Senator Hannon. “On a college level, interns can truly function as a meaningful asset to our team. Simultaneously, they learn new skills while polishing the skill set they already possess,” Hannon continued.
