Donate an Organ, Save a Life

Senator Kemp Hannon is partnering with Long Island TRIO (Long Island Chapter, Transplant Recipients International Organization) to promote organ donation awareness during the month of April, which is Organ Tissue and Donation Awareness Month.

On the next episode of Senator Hannon’s weekly cable show, “Legislative Report,” Senator Hannon will be discussing how to become an organ donor and how organ donations are helping thousands of people each year.

“I continually stress the importance of becoming a donor,” said Hannon. “Especially during this month of Organ Tissue and Donation Awareness, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that donating an organ is saving a life,” Hannon continued.

As the Ranking Member of the Senate Health Committee, Senator Hannon has been responsible for numerous laws which promote organ donation and make it easier to become a donor.  He sponsored legislation providing for an opportunity to make a voluntary contribution to the “Life: Pass It On” Trust Fund to support organ and tissue donation education and awareness.

Every year, more than 1,500 people receive kidneys, livers, and hearts that have been donated for transplantation. However, with thousands of New Yorkers still on waiting lists, the need for organ donations far exceeds the supply.
