Odd-Even Gasoline Rationing To End
Saturday, November 17, 2012
Odd-even gas rationing will end midnight Friday on Long Island, effective for Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The odd-even rationing system will still be in effect in New York City.
Because lines have nearly disappeared at gas stations, rationing will end just after midnight as Saturday begins.
The odd-even system was begun on November 9, following long lines gasoline stations. In the wake of Superstorm Sandy, supplies were short and many stations were without power, fuel or both.
Although supplies have improved, and lines have gotten noticeably shorter, Long Island's largest gasoline distribution terminal, in Inwood, still has not returned to operation, nor has another in Brooklyn that supplies Long Island.
