“JOBS EXPRESS” WEBSITE HAS ALREADY HELPED MORE THAN 44,000 INDIVIDUALS FIND WORK IN LESS THAN A YEAR
The ‘Jobs Express’ website has been a major success for New York, as we continue to recover from the national economic recession. In under a year, more than 44,000 individuals seeking employment have been successfully hired.
Launched by the State Department of Labor in October of 2011, the Jobs Express website began with 60,000 jobs posted by employers throughout the State. Since that time, more than 10,000 additional jobs have been added, and the website has experienced over 100,000 site hits a month. Approximately 8,000 employers have connected with job seekers, and more than 40,000 have been hired as a result.
My three highest priorities are jobs, jobs, and more jobs. I have successfully partnered with Governor Cuomo on a number of statewide initiatives ranging from the NY Works program, Jobs Express, and the Regional Economic Development Councils, and my Senate colleagues and I have passed additional legislation like my ‘New Jobs-New York Plan’ to help create thousands of additional jobs in our state.
I also recently held a Jobs Fair in East Meadow that attracted more than 1,000 job seekers and had almost 70 employers looking for eager employees. Seeking innovative ways to grow the economy and get people back to work are foremost in my plan to restore New York and enable residents to find new employment during a challenging economic period. The Jobs Express website is one of those ways.
Jobs Express works by taking thousands of jobs posted by employers, sorting them by region, and allowing job seekers to evaluate which industries are growing, and what opportunities are available in specific economic sectors. It also spotlights videos that offer advice to job seekers, and features ‘Skills Matching and Referral Technology’ (SMART), which is an electronic job-matching tool that actually generates job leads.
New job openings are posted often and the Labor Department updates the site daily. To visit Jobs Express, click here.
