New York has a new, updated “511NY” information, giving New York drivers real time traffic and construction project updates.
As the NY Works road and bridge projects get underway across the state, helping to create jobs and improve our state’s infrastructure, it is important for New Yorkers to stay informed about the progress of these projects, and any traffic tie-ups which may result from this, and other construction projects.
With a revamped website (www.511ny.org), new mobile apps, improved social media connections including Twitter and Facebook, and additional alert features, the 511NY service will give drivers real-time updates about construction trouble spots, bridge construction, and other possible delay-related incidents. 511NY will also let users personalize their maps with familiar routes, so they do not need to repeatedly search for updates.
The updated 511NY website and apps will significantly aid travelers by giving them advanced notice of construction, closings and poor weather conditions. This will allow travelers to select alternate routes or different departure times so as to avoid delays.
The DOT has added heightened, more visible alerts to the 511NY homepage for emergency notifications, and in the event of emergencies affecting large portions of the state, users need only to access 511NY’s homepage to view information critical to families. Not only will 511NY offer this real-time traffic and transit information, it also has a trip planner, camera views and weather alerts – and all available right from the 511ny.org web page.
