HANNON ANNOUNCES RE-INSTITUTION OF SENATE COMMITTEE ON ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG ABUSE
Health Chair Senator Kemp Hannon recently announced the re-institution of the Senate Standing Committee on Alcoholism and Drug abuse.
“Drug and alcohol abuse continues to be a major problem on Long Island,” said Senator Hannon. “The use of heroin and prescription drugs by our young people is on the rise, and should be of serious concern to everyone,” Hannon continued.
Heroin has become the drug of choice of the middle class and wealthy youth on Long Island. The current approach has been to stop the flow of heroin to the addict and, simultaneously, to educate young children and their parents on the tragic consequences of using the drug.
"As the Executive Director of YES Community Counseling Center and the Vice President of Nassau Alliance for Addiction Services I am delighted to hear of the re-instatement of the Senate’s committee on Alcohol and Drug Abuse,” said Jamie Bogenshutz. “If positive change is to come about, it can only be accomplished through strong leadership and a commitment towards providing resources to those in need."
